3. SETTING

Life is normal, with people going around carrying out their mundane, everyday lives. Despite the 7/7 bombings, London has managed to patch itself up, and with the eve of '06 coming along, it won't be long before a new year dawns, and the world becomes that much older. The parliament has increased protection and surveillance, so such threats have become of less concern to the overall public.

Everyday heroes are heralded for their extraordinary acts of kindness and courage, virtue and quick thinking. But a time will come when others must step up, when everyday heroes are unaware of the impending danger. Perhaps these others are not all heroes - in fact, it is highly likely that it is so. After all, those days are long gone, and not only that, but a tragic accident has caused them to forget all about the world of magic, and any connection they had with magic has been severed.

Now, that's not to say that they aren't still magical; they remain witches and wizards in their own right. However, without a spark to remind them, or any tools around available to channel these potent energies, there's never been a way for them to rediscover their powers. Not to mention, of course, that they believe they're ordinary. Average Joes and Janes, living average lives in an average world.

Devoid of the famous Harry Potter, and with many of his former peers missing, the Ministry of Magic is left with a tricky conundrum. As soon as they heard of what had occurred, the Minister drew up a plan, which was put into action immediately. For the first year or so, they sent Auror after Auror, official after official to attempt to retrieve the Boy Who Lived along with all the other alumni that were in his year, and jog their memories. Few returned, and those who did were either completely disheartened or plain insane.

The plan was abandoned after 7 months.

It's clear that there's much going on right now, but nobody has quite figured it out yet. The Ministry's only lead is a frail old woman, who claimed to have summoned Potter's year to inform them of something, and to help them combat a dark force. But with the magical world slowly descending into violent disarray, and the Ministry having issued a lockdown on all passageways leading in or out of the Wizarding World, it seems like this situation is going nowhere fast; at least, not until a few courageous wizards decide to band together and try to achieve the greater good ... the right way.
